Motorist ambushed by fake Police in blue light hijacking

A motorist was abducted after criminals posing as law enforcement officers used blue lights to stop his vehicle before hijacking his Nissan NP200 and abandoning him in Soweto.

Police are investigating a carjacking and kidnapping after a motorist was ambushed by criminals using blue lights on July 7.

The incident began at approximately 10:45 as a resident (33) was driving his Nissan NP200 bakkie from Carletonville towards Mohlakeng, near Randfontein.

As he travelled from the R501 onto the R559, a white Hyundai H-1 equipped with blue lights suddenly appeared behind him, signalling for him to pull over.

Once stationary, a woman wearing civilian clothes got out of the Hyundai and walked towards the driver, claiming that his bakkie’s brake lights were not working.

The driver stepped out of his vehicle to check the lights, but the situation quickly turned violent.
The woman drew a firearm and fired a shot into the air, signalling for four men to jump out of the Hyundai.

The attackers, who spoke Setswana, grabbed the driver, tied him up, and forced him into their Hyundai.

The kidnappers eventually drove the victim to Soweto, where they dropped him off near a cemetery in Dobsonville.

Carletonville Police are now actively investigating cases of carjacking and kidnapping.
