Police warns of online scams

Watch out as these criminals aim to take your money.

The SAPS warns the public to be wary of scams following escalating fraud cases in some towns in Northwest.
Although these cases were reported in places like Rustenburg, Hartbeespoortdam, Lichtenburg and Klerksdorp, among others, at least one resident of Carletonville also received a call from such a scammer yesterday (September 16).
Bank account holders typically receive a call from a person claiming to be a bank employee from the Fraud Department.
The police warn that the caller then requests the account holders to urgently log on to their banking App in order to stop fraudulent transactions.
They aim to get you to share your personal and banking information over the phone or to approve or do a transaction that will result in you being scammed out of money.
In some other cases, the caller wants to send you a code. If you click on this, the scammer can also gain access to your phone.
