Carletonville Police have scored a major victory against local hijackers following a terrifying ordeal for a Jade Street resident.

The brave woman was sitting in her car in her home driveway at 03:30 on September 11 when two men suddenly appeared beside her. Speaking Sesotho, the thugs threatened her with a firearm and a knife. In a remarkable twist of courage, the victim instantly recognised the pair as the same men who had hijacked and kidnapped both her and a friend last month, even telling one of the suspects to his face that she knew who he was.

Following the attack, she quickly contacted a member of the police special trio task team. The detective acted swiftly and traced one of the alleged suspects. Officers also recovered electronic equipment stolen during both the recent and previous crimes.

The 22-year-old suspect, who is an undocumented immigrant from Lesotho, was due to appear in court this week to face charges of car hijacking and the possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile, police operations are ongoing as officers continue their search for his remaining accomplices.
