A couple from the Elijah Barayi mega housing complex near Welverdiend had a harrowing experience this week.

A resident (26) was sleeping with her boyfriend at 1400/B5 on October 28 at approximately 00:40. They were suddenly woken up by someone trying to break
down their door.

The intruder fired a shot when he realised that he could not force the door open. Her boyfriend then broke a window and ran away.

“Open the door or we will kill you,” threatened the robbers.

The resident had no choice but to comply, after which three Sotho-speaking men stormed into the room. The thugs, who were all masked with balaclavas, proceeded to search the home.

They took R3 500, two phones, and a watch before running away.
