Taxi drivers escape unharmed after gunmen open fire at Carletonville filling station

Several members of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association narrowly escaped injury when unknown suspects opened fire on taxis parked at a Sasol garage.

A group of minibus taxi drivers had a scary experience during the past week.

A 46-year-old taxi driver, who is a member of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association (CALLDTA) and operates the Lesotho route, was sitting with several colleagues inside their taxis at the Sasol filling station in Dolomite Street, Carletonville, on July 1.

They were still inside their taxis when they suddenly heard gunshots at around 21:40.

The drivers immediately fell to the ground inside their taxis to try to avoid injury.

They unfortunately did not see their attackers.

After the shooting stopped, the drivers got out of the taxis to inspect the damage.

Luckily none of them were hit by the several shots.

The windows of the taxi in which a driver sat, were however shattered while the back of this taxi was also hit by some of the bullets.

The police in Carletonville are investigating an attempted murder case.
