Carletonville High School chess teams shine at D2 Championship

The U17 team finished fourth after a competitive run.

Carletonville High School’s chess teams delivered outstanding performances at the D2 Championship held on Friday, July 26.

According to school spokesperson Sandra Venter, the school’s U19 team secured second place overall, which qualified them for the upcoming Provincial Championship. Their journey was marked by dominant victories, including two 4–2 wins over Badirile Secondary in Rounds 1 and 3, and impressive triumphs over Hoërskool Nic Diedericks (5–1), Hoërskool Monument (5–1), and Hoërskool Noordheuwel (6–0).

Meanwhile, the U17 team also had a solid showing, finishing in fourth place after a series of hard-fought matches. Their campaign included tied results with Hoërskool Nic Diedericks and Hoërskool Jan Viljoen from Randfontein.

Both teams showcased determination and skill, making their school and community proud.
