Khutsong Ext 5 resident shot during armed house robbery in Carletonville

Two armed robbers broke into a home in the early hours of the morning, shot a resident through a bedroom door, and fled with cellphones and cash.

A duo of house robbers struck at a house in Khutsong Ext 5 this week.

A resident (31) of the 60s was asleep in his home with his girlfriend on July 2. Two other couples also share the same house.

The resident was woken up by a loud noise at about 02:15 and realised that thugs were breaking open his door. Before he could act, two unknown men stormed in.

The masked thugs were armed with a shotgun and a rifle and spoke Sesotho. They immediately demanded money and cellphones and started searching the house from room to room.

One of the other residents heard them coming and blocked the door with a chair. When the thugs realised that they could not get in, the one with the rifle shot through the door, hitting the resident in the hip and buttocks.

They then forced their way into this room and searched it for valuables. The criminals grabbed six cellphones and money and ran away.

The resident who was shot was taken to Carletonville Hospital.

The police in Carletonville are investigating house robbery and attempted murder cases.
