Wedela police lead door-to-door awareness aampaign against GBV and drug abuse

They shared resources on gender-based violence, domestic abuse, and drugs.

Residents of Wedela Ext 1 received a much-needed visit from their local police this week as part of a focused community outreach campaign aimed at raising awareness around gender-based violence (GBV), domestic abuse, and substance abuse.

The door-to-door initiative, which took place on Sunday, July 28, was led by Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, Social Crime Prevention Officer at the Wedela SAPS. She was joined by Green Door Ambassador Nozizwe Maphomolo, officers from the liquor and supply chain management units, and representatives from the Victim Friendly Room (VFR) and GBV brigades.

“The purpose of this engagement was to teach the community more about domestic violence, gender-based violence, and drugs,” said Sergeant Sifuba.

During the campaign, the team reached out to 120 residents and handed out 100 educational pamphlets containing essential information, helpline numbers, and resources for victims and their families.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to build trust within the community and provide proactive support in tackling social crimes.
