Carletonville police engage Khutsong Ext 5 community to tackle crime together
The community can play an important role in fighting crime.
In a continued effort to combat crime and build trust, Carletonville Police met with members of the Khutsong Ext 5 community on September 3 at the local library.
The engagement was part of the station’s ongoing social crime prevention programme, spearheaded by Sergeant Thabo Mathebula, domestic violence and social crime prevention coordinator at Carletonville SAPS.
Also present were:
-
Lieutenant-Colonel Mzana of Visible Policing
-
Sector Manager Constable Nabo Modise
-
CPF patrollers, street committee members
-
Ward Councillor Ali Motsumi
The meeting, which started at 17:00, focused on addressing key concerns around local crime trends and strengthening collaboration between the police and residents.
“The purpose of the meeting was to discuss crime in the area,” said Sergeant Mathebula.
Key issues and action points
During the session, police urged residents to report criminal activity promptly—even if they suspect it is about to occur. Officers stressed that early reporting is essential in preventing crimes and supporting police efforts.
Constable Modise called on the community to:
-
Recruit more patrollers, especially men
-
Verify the identity of new tenants before renting out property
-
Monitor community WhatsApp groups and verify new members before adding them
He warned that criminals often use fake or no identification to rent properties and operate undetected within the community.
