Khutsong SAPS and CPF unite community through heritage celebration
This united police, patrollers, and community members through culture, food, and music to promote unity and crime prevention.
In honour of Heritage Month, the Khutsong SAPS Police Station, in partnership with the Khutsong Community Policing Forum (CPF), hosted a successful cultural celebration on Friday, 26 September 2025. The event brought together SAPS officers, community patrollers, and local residents in a powerful display of unity and cultural pride.
According to CPF Public Relations Officer Refilwe Ntshabele, the event aimed to revive the spirit of the rainbow nation and strengthen relationships between the police and the community. “We wanted to build a sense of teamwork and remind the youth that culture comes first,” she said.
CPF Chairperson Thami Mbezu emphasized the importance of reconnecting community members with the SAPS and CPF. “This event was about breaking down communication barriers and encouraging collaboration between the police, patrollers, and the public,” he noted.
One of the day’s highlights was a traditional food competition, featuring dishes from Zulu, Tswana, Xhosa, and Shaangane cultures. Cooked in traditional pots and judged on presentation and flavour, the Shaangane group took first place, followed by the Tswana group. The celebration continued with vibrant traditional dances and entertainment from Glitters Theatre Production, Vibration Taylor, and local DJs.
Colonel Ockert Brits, Station Commander at Khutsong SAPS, praised the initiative as a meaningful way to build trust and promote inclusivity. “We are here to serve all cultures equally and unite in the fight against crime,” he stated.
The event also received support from Ekhaya Group, a local accommodation company. HR Manager Veneshia Brown said, “As a company rooted in Khutsong, we are passionate about giving back and supporting positive change.”
The Khutsong CPF expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and is already planning more community-driven events, including a Fun Day for children. They encourage continued support from local businesses and organizations to help build a safer, more connected community.
