Sinkhole shuts down section next to R500 Road — Drivers warned to slow down

Motorists are warned to reduce speed—especially in wet weather—while repairs are pending and no completion date has been announced.

Motorists using the R500 are urged to exercise extreme caution after a sinkhole expanded to right next to the road earlier today, Wednesday, 3 December.

The sinkhole is located at the turn-off to Goudvlakte, just after Red Cap Ranch. Authorities have closed off the damaged section next to the road and are redirecting traffic around the affected area.

Drivers are warned to slow down when approaching the site, especially during rainy conditions, to avoid accidents at the roadworks.

It is currently unclear how long it will take to repair and fill the sinkhole.
