Oberholzer residents demand action as municipal fire burns for six days

Residents in Oberholzer have raised alarm after a fire on municipal grounds behind the offices on Canal Street burned for several days.

Residents in Oberholzer are calling for urgent action as a fire on municipal grounds continues to burn for its sixth consecutive day.

The fire, located behind the municipal offices on Canal Street, broke out on February 19 around 09:50. Despite the fire department and a TLB attending the scene shortly after it started, the area remains ablaze.

Fiona Weeks, a resident, says the thick smoke has been blowing across the street toward her home for most of the week. “This is terrible! I cannot breathe because of all the smoke, and it feels as if I am dying,” she complained.

She added that her 89-year-old mother-in-law has also been affected, and reported that a disabled resident was recently stung by bees coming from the same municipal site. Weeks claims that her attempts to get help from the main municipal offices have been unsuccessful. ”I go there to complain, but they just laugh at me,” she said.

The Herald contacted the municipality, and they said that bees were discovered in a container at the vehicle pound. The bees were fumigated, which caused the smoke, but the problem has now been solved.
