Blybank couple held captive as armed gang storms home

Five masked robbers break in, steal vehicle and valuables before locking victims inside

A Blybank couple endured a terrifying ordeal this week after a group of robbers stormed their home and locked them inside.

The incident occurred late at night on April 16 on Plover Street.

The 58-year-old husband was asleep when he was suddenly awakened by a loud noise from the kitchen at approximately 23:50.

Five masked men, who were all speaking isiZulu, gained entry by kicking open the kitchen door.

One of the intruders was armed with a firearm, which he pointed at the resident while demanding the keys and registration papers for the man’s Isuzu bakkie.

The gang then ransacked the home, grabbing a TV set and three cellphones.

These items were loaded into the victim’s vehicle before the criminals fled the scene.

Before fleeing the scene in the stolen bakkie, the thugs locked the man and his wife inside the house to prevent them from raising the alarm.
