Carletonville CBD shooting: Suspect arrested after gunfire damages vehicles

Police seize 9mm pistol as one man is charged with attempted murder and malicious damage to property following late-night incident near Marcello’s Tavern

An unusual shooting incident in the Carletonville CBD led to the arrest of a man at approximately 23:54 on April 25 in Osmium Street near Marcello’s tavern.

A resident (33) was sitting in his Volkswagen Polo when he witnessed two men chasing another person.

He heard several shots fired and quickly realised that bullets had hit his car near the driver’s side door. After getting out of his vehicle, the man confronted the two gunmen to ask who would pay for the repairs.

One of the suspects fled the scene in a grey Mercedes-Benz while the other suspect got into a Toyota Yaris. As the resident approached the second man, the suspect reached for his firearm just as police arrived at the scene. Officers arrested the man and discovered that another vehicle, a Toyota Etios, had also been damaged by the gunfire.

The police confiscated a 9mm pistol and charged the suspect with attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and illegally firing a weapon in a municipal area.
