Two Fochville police officers injured after bakkie crashes into police station

Police vehicle smashes through fence and office wall during parking incident at Fochville Police Station.

Two police officers were taken to the hospital over the weekend following an unusual accident at Fochville Police Station.

Members of the public passing by the station will have noticed a large gap in the front palisade fencing, as well as a sizeable hole in the wall of one of the offices. The damage is significant enough that equipment inside the building is visible from the street.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 on May 23. A police officer was assisting his colleague to park a double-cab Toyota bakkie when the vehicle suddenly shot forward. It crashed straight through the fence and into the office building.

Both the driver and the officer who had been standing in front of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital. The police are currently investigating the incident.
