Carletonville among South Africa’s top 30 crime hotspots

Latest SAPS crime statistics show a sharp increase in reported sexual assault cases, while house robberies remain among the highest in the country.mjnm

Carletonville is once again the only police station in our area to rank among the top precincts for crime.

The Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia, released the SAPS crime statistics for January to March a week ago.

According to these statistics, Carletonville ranks 12th amongst the top 30 police stations in the country that have the most sexual assaults.

A total of 10 of these cases were reported in Carletonville from January to March, compared to only two during the same period last year.

Previously, the highest number of sexual assaults reported in Carletonville from January to March was five cases in 2023.

Carletonville also ranks 30th amongst the police stations with the most house robberies. A total of 24 cases of this crime were reported between January and March this year.

Although the number of cases makes Carletonville rank among the 30 police stations with the highest figures, it is lower than the 25 cases reported during the corresponding time in 2025 and the 29 cases reported during the same months in 2024.

Ikageng at Potchefstroom ranks the highest on the top 30 lists amongst our neighbouring towns.

This policing precinct is 7th on the list for assaults with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, 9th on the list for the most burglaries at homes, and 12th on the list for the most arson.
