Carletonville High School celebrates strong winter sport success
Callies teams impress across multiple age groups with dominant rugby victories and top finishes in the hockey leagues.
Carletonville High School is enjoying an outstanding sports season, with its rugby, hockey and netball teams achieving excellent results.
The rugby teams have dominated most of their weekend matches. In a strong performance against Bracken High School from Alberton, the U14 team won 28–7, while the U15s secured a 14–13 victory.
The first team completely outclassed their opponents with a 71–5 win, though the U16 team suffered a 5–51 defeat.
Callies also played against Hoërskool Jan Viljoen from Randfontein.
The U14s won 26–12, the U15s secured a 25–0 victory, and the first team won 22–10. The second team fought to a 7–7 draw, but the U16s narrowly lost 7–14.
In their fixture against Hoërskool Bekker from Magaliesburg, the first rugby team claimed a 21–15 victory.
However, the other teams struggled, with the U14s losing 12–54, the U15s edged out 17–19, the U16s defeated 5–64, and the second team losing 5–14.
The hockey teams also enjoyed an outstanding league season.
The U14s, coached by Zunike Dos Ramos and Zenita van der Westhuizen, walked off as D2 league champions.
The first team, coached by Zunike Dos Ramos and Alison Muir, finished as the runners-up in their league, Meanwhile, the U15 and U16s, coached by Delarize Verwey, Sami Kapp and Janke Botha, both secured third place.
