Multi-agency school safety campaign reaches Carletonville community

Police and partner organisations educate residents and children on safety, domestic violence, substance abuse and health awareness.

Various police officers joined forces with other authorities to ensure that learners in our area are safe.
According to the Krugersdorp SAPS Social Crime Prevention Co-ordinator, Warrant Officer Tshifularo, the action took place on June 26.

Social Crime Prevention and Domestic Violence co-ordinators from different stations in the West Rand district, together with West Rand District Municipality’s social crime officials, the Department of Community Safety, officials from the Department of Health in the Merafong Sub-District and various other authorities took part in a door to door outreach and school safety awareness campaign at Tsatsabene informal housing area outside Carletonville and Excellars Day Care Centre in Carletonville.

“The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of domestic violence and substance abuse. The community was informed about the services that are at their disposal should they need help.
The children were taught about their safety on the road even at home,” says Tshifularo.
Officials also shared other knowledge with the residents and youngsters. Members of the gender-based violence brigades informed the community about the services that they render, while officials from the health department talked about the benefits of circumcision. They also demonstrated to the children how to wash their hands and told them about general hygiene.
The team also distributed pamphlets with information about my SAPS app, crime prevention tips, tips to help against domestic violence and substance abuse, as well as the contact details for the police station management.
The group distributed about 450 pamphlets, ensuring that more residents, both young and old, now have more knowledge about various crimes.
