Residents frustrated as Greenspark road project remains incomplete
Patrys Street upgrade drags on months after work began, leaving residents concerned about safety and flooding.
Even though it was less than a week before the end of the municipal financial year, a contractor of the Merafong City Local Municipality had still not completed work on a problem street in Greenspark last week.
Residents of Patrys Street complain that work to pave this street already started in November last year. The contractor, however, left the site before the work was completed.
This street has been a huge problem for residents over the past decade as its condition has deteriorated to such an extent that there was almost no tar left in the section next to Greenspark Primary School.
Blocked storm water drains also caused the street to flood when it rained.
This water often flowed into adjacent houses.
When the Herald visited the site on June 25, the contractor was still busy paving the top part of the street. The other side, next to the school, had also not yet been finished completely.
Three residents, Dahne, Melita and Natasha Marshall, also pointed out that the storm water drains were not yet completed.
These deep, open drains posed a constant falling hazard for both children and pedestrians.
As no one was sure when the work would be completed, the Herald asked the municipality’s marketing and communication manager, Temba Fezani, about the issue on Monday.
No feedback was received by printing time.
