Mentally disabled Welverdiend man missing after trip to Johannesburg

Family fears for the safety of 56-year-old Andries Martienus Opperman, who disappeared after leaving home on June 30.

A well-known resident of Welverdiend has been missing since last week.

Andries Martienus Opperman (56) left his home in Welverdiend on June 30. He told relatives that he was going to Johannesburg to try to find out more about his late mother’s pension fund.
Opperman, however, has not been seen since.

As he is mentally disabled, he is very vulnerable, and his family and friends are extremely concerned.
He is well-known to many residents as he regularly walks from Welverdiend to Potchefstroom to attend church on Sundays.

Anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Kenalemang Mokatsane on 078 446 8954 or Lieutenant Colonel Suzette Klopper on 072 477 9540.
