Carletonville Library system failure leaves readers frustrated
Book lovers in Carletonville can once again borrow books after a months-long computer system failure prevented library users from checking out reading material.
Although the Carletonville Library is supposed to be a place where people can get books to read, this was not recently the case.
According to a concerned pensioner, Anne MacIntosh, she has been struggling to take out a book at the municipal library for the past three months.
“Reading is the only pleasure I have left, but the service at the library is pathetic,” she says.
The problem at the facility is that the system is apparently continually offline.
This issue prohibits residents from taking library books out of the building.
The only way someone can benefit from the books is if they sit in the library and read it.
While this arrangement works for school children during the current school holiday, it is not a practical option for most other people.
The Herald took the issue to the municipality and they replied on July 14 that the system is up and running and that residents can check out books again.
