Armed robbers steal cash from security team at Gateway Mall in Carletonville

Carletonville police investigate armed robbery and attempted murder after Gateway Mall heist.

Police are investigating armed robbery and attempted murder charges following a brazen robbery in Carletonville this week.

This crime took place on August 1. An employee of IZI Cash Solutions (33) and his colleagues arrived at the back of Gateway Mall in Carletonville at approximately 13:30 with a box of money to load into the Capitec ATM.

They had just stopped when a blue VW Polo Vivo stopped near them.

Two men, speaking isiZulu, got out and pointed firearms at the security staff.

One of the employee’s colleagues got out and pointed his firearm at the attackers.

A third robber appeared behind him and told the security staff to lie down.

The criminals then took out a grinder and opened the money box.

They took the money inside, jumped into the Polo and raced away.

The security guards’ colleague, who was sitting nearby in another vehicle, noticed something was wrong and chased after the Polo.

He managed to catch up with them and bumped into their vehicle in Zeolite Street.

As the guard tried to bump into them again, he lost control of his vehicle.

The robbers jumped out of their vehicle and shot at him before racing off.

The man escaped uninjured.
