Spartans Karate Club earns medals at South African Open Karate Championships
Carletonville's Peyton Soobramany won gold and Dylan Venter claimed bronze as Spartans Karate Club continued its winning tradition with five medals at the South African Open in Durban.
The Spartans Karate Club once again demonstrated its strength on the national stage at the South African Open, held in Durban on July 17 and 18.
“Despite significant changes and restructuring within the national federation leading up to the tournament, one thing remained unchanged; Spartans Karate Club’s ability to deliver results.
The club returned home with an impressive gold medal and four bronze medals, continuing its tradition of excellence at major national events,” says the club’s coach, Sensei Enzo Pillay.
Standout performances came from Carletonville’s own Dylan Venter and Peyton Soobramany, whose determination and years of hard work paid off with a well-deserved bronze medal and gold medal, respectively.
“Dylan displayed a remarkable improvement in both skill and confidence throughout the competition, proving that his dedication to the sport is beginning to bear fruit. After years of consistent training and perseverance, Dylan is emerging as one of the club’s brightest prospects, with coaches believing he has the potential to become one of South Africa’s next top karate champions,” says Pillay.
The medal haul reflects the continued commitment of Spartans Karate to developing athletes capable of competing at the highest level.
Pillay praised the team’s performances, highlighting the resilience and determination shown by every athlete who represented the club.
With the South African Open now behind them, Spartans Karate has shifted its focus to the remainder of the competitive season. The athletes will be aiming to secure qualification for the South African national team that will represent the country at the upcoming WKF World Karate Championships.
As the season progresses, Spartans Karate remains determined to build on its success and continue producing athletes capable of competing with the very best, both nationally and internationally.
