The Black Ladies Organisation (BLO) successfully hosted its 2nd Annual Women in Business Awards and Gala Dinner on September 5 at Carletonville Civic Centre.

The event was in celebration of women who are actively building Merafong.

It was a special occasion bringing together women entrepreneurs, professionals, business leaders, artists, performers, community builders and stakeholders from across Merafong.

It was held under the theme “Red Carpet Glamour’’ and the prestigious evening was more than a celebration of achievement as it provided a platform to recognize women who are making a meaningful contribution through entrepreneurship, leadership, professional excellence, community development and service.

The Women in Business Awards form part of BLO’s broader vision of empowering women and creating opportunities for growth, networking and collaboration. The initiative highlights the achievements of women within the local community and provides positive role models for young women and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The awards are important because they give recognition to women whose work often goes unnoticed. Whether through running a business, creating employment, serving the community, developing young people or contributing to their respective professions, these women are playing an important role in
building stronger families and communities.

The awards also create opportunities for women to connect, share experiences, build relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration by celebrating both established and emerging women. BLO encourages others to pursue their dreams, grow their businesses and become agents of positive change.

The impact of BLO extends beyond the annual gala, through its various initiatives as the organization continues to promote women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, mentorship, networking and community development, contributing towards the economic and social advancement of women in
Merafong and surrounding communities. The significance of BLO’s work was further acknowledged during the gala when Merafong City Executive Mayor Nozuko Best presented the organization with an Icon of Impact Award, acknowledging BLO’s contribution towards supporting women entrepreneurs.

The support made it possible to create a platform where women could be recognized, celebrated and encouraged and the contribution goes beyond sponsoring an event as it represents an investment in
women, entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and the future of the Merafong community. BLO is grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening including the nominees, award recipients, speakers, performers, organizers, volunteers and members of the community.

Mrs Raisa Shiburi as one of the Founders and Treasurer stated that they extend their heartfelt gratitude to
all sponsors and partners, Merafong local municipality Mayoral office and her team, as well as various businesses for supporting the initiative and believing in their vision. As BLO continues to grow, its vision remains clear which is to empower women, celebrate excellence and create meaningful opportunities that make a lasting difference in Merafong and beyond.
