Businesspeople and pedestrians near the Carletonville Taxi Rank were left terrified this week following a random shooting on September 14.

The incident unfolded at 15:00 near the corner of Amethyst and Zeolite Street, where a 41-year-old mechanic who repaired vehicle exhaust systems was working.

A former client arrived at the site and complained that he was unhappy with previous work done on his car, demanding immediate repairs.

When the mechanic explained that he could not help right away because he lacked the necessary gas, a heated argument broke out between the two men.

The situation escalated quickly when the customer drew a handgun and shot the mechanic in the right side of his chest.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The police later arrested the suspect on September 18.
