Next week, the Ubuntu Safe Home in Kokosi will host a special community event to celebrate African heritage through play.

The fun day takes place on September29 at 365 Ben Shiburi Street, welcoming all local children to enjoy a fun run and traditional games starting at 10:00.

Attendees should wear sportswear or any comfortable clothing. Organisers expect around 150 children to participate in classic indigenous games like Morabaraba, Diketo, Kgati, Dibeke, Ncuva, and Moruba, alongside a surprise guest appearance to keep everyone entertained.

Mrs Emma Kgampe, the managing director of Ubuntu, explains that the event tackles a growing disconnection from cultural roots among young people.

“Through play, we aim to teach cultural identity, build self-esteem, promote social cohesion, and provide safe, healthy recreation as an alternative to the streets.”
