Local dance and drama groups from Khutsong participated in the Gauteng Cohesion Carnival in Pretoria on 24 September. The annual event, organised by the Department of Arts and Culture, celebrates Heritage Day by integrating different cultures. The carnival consisted of a street parade where the crowd of more than 10 000 people took part in a 6.5 km circular walk from Tshwane playground and back again. Different groups from different regions performed at the event. According to Tebogo Leshomo, who was one of the 15 choreographers from the West Rand, there were 2 000 participants, including 145 from Khutsong. Ubuhle Bamasiko Traditional Dance Group, Vaya Kasi, Beatmasters’ Gumboot, Kgoga Masigo, Koffla and Crazy Kwasa Dance were some of the groups that were represented. The theme for this year’s festival was “Cohesion” and the dress was orange traditional.
