Security guards survive gun attack while protecting Transnet trains in Welverdiend

Police are investigating an attempted murder case after armed criminals opened fire on a security vehicle guarding Transnet trains in Welverdiend, leaving the vehicle damaged by bullets.

A security vehicle was shot at by criminals in Welverdiend earlier this week. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 26 at approximately 12:40.

Security personnel responsible for guarding Transnet trains were carrying out routine duties near the electrical substation by the railway houses when they came under sudden fire.

The guards returned fire before racing to the Carletonville Police Station to seek assistance.

The security vehicle sustained two bullet holes in its bonnet during the attack.

The police are currently investigating a case of attempted murder.
