Police make big drug busts

The Police in Fochville recently arrested two men for being in possession of drugs.

The Police in Fochville recently arrested two men for being in possession of drugs.

According to a detective from Fochville, Warrant Officer Pieter Maartens, he is currently in the process of arresting as many people as possible who are involved in drugs.

“Drugs are a huge problem in our area and many of these criminals have been getting away with it for far too long. I want everyone who uses or sells drugs to know that I am on their track,” he told the Herald this week. One of those arrested is the 38-year-old Mr Kenneth Adams from Greenspark. Although he was first arrested for being in possession of 20 bags of Tik in the middle of May, he was arrested for the same offence once again on 5 June.

At the time of his second arrest, Adams allegedly tried to destroy a pipe (bong) that is used to smoke the drug and was therefore also charged with defeating the ends of justice. To make matters worse, he was also linked to a recent robbery in Fochville. After he was apprehended in Fochville, police also discovered that a warrant for his arrest had been issued in connection with a recent robbery in Potchefstroom.

In addition, they also established that Adams was out on parole when he was arrested for the above-mentioned charges. Another suspect for whom the police had been searching for some time, is Fochville resident, Mr Gerhard Coetzee (35). He was arrested on 6 May after five bags of crystal meth were found in his possession.

Coetzee had hidden the substance behind the radio and under the roof panels of his car. Both Adams and Coetzee have already appeared in court.
Maartens is appealing to members of the community to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of drug dealers and users in the Fochville area.

He can be contacted at 071 451 6955.
