According to the communications officer of the police in Carletonville, WO Peter Masooa, the incident happened at around 06:50 on 11 May.
Two police officers were on routine patrol when they were called to an accident scene on the road between Oberholzer and Welverdiend.
Upon their arrival, they found a blue Mazda 6 with the registration number BC 01 JP on the side of the road. It was facing Khutsong Ext. 5. The vehicle’s left front door and mirror were damaged.
The driver, who was standing next to the car, showed the police a bicycle in the grass nearby.
He told the officers he had been driving towards Welverdiend when a maroon Toyota Tazz, coming from the opposite direction, suddenly turned into the township, right in front of him, without indicating.
The driver of the Mazda swerved to the right to avoid a collision and bumped into the cyclist, who was also heading towards Carletonville.
The cyclist was transported to hospital in an ambulance.
