‘Young people must take leadership seriously’
“Young people must take leadership seriously.” So says a young leader from Kokosi, who is on his way to Indonesia to help set up a new international youth structure.
Eighteen-year-old Itumeleng Motsisi, a former learner of Thuto-Kitso High School, is one of five candidates to represent the country at a United Nations (UN) leadership conference in Bali in November.
Itumeleng, who is currently a student at the Maharishi University of Management in South Africa, was the president of Thuto-Kitso’s SRC for two years. He was chosen to be part of the international event following his input at various national events, including a leadership conference at the University of Pretoria’s GIBS Business School.
“We had to draft a young people’s constitution for the UN’s new youth structure to be launched in Indonesia,” he says.
Itumeleng says he is already working with the current Miss Merafong to hold events for the youth in the area.
“Many young people do not take their positions on the SRCs seriously. It is unfortunate because it can help you a lot in the future,” he says.
The UN will pay for Itumeleng’s stay in Indonesia and the Merafong City Local Municipality will cover his plane ticket. Anyone who could assist with his other expenses is urged to contact him at 065 967 6883.
