2 July: Third Wave hitting hard in Merafong

The third wave of the pandemic in South Africa is hitting our area hard.

According to statistics released by the Gauteng Department of Health this afternoon a total of 122 new cases were reported in the Merafong City Local Municipality area since yesterday. This brings the total number of cases in our area to 7 545. Of them 6 344 patients have recovered while 267 have died. Two of these deaths occurred during the past day. Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area) had 428 new cases during the past day, which brings their total to 22 459 cases, of which 18 500 have recovered and 549 have died. A total of 147 new cases were reported in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area), of which 9 754 patients have recovered and 335 have passed away.
