Carletonville CBD a nightmare

Carletonville’s central business district, the first area many visitors see, looks worse than ever.

During the past week, several residents complained that the CBD has never been dirtier. The areas around Emerald, Halite, Flint and Gold streets look particularly bad.
What makes matters worse is that these streets are by the Merafong City Local Municipality’s offices in Halite Street. Municipal officials and workers drive past the eyesores every day.
Not only is there rubbish everywere, but it also blocks several stormwater drains. These drains have not been cleaned for several months, at least.
Many of the stormwater drains have partially collapsed.
Some of the problems may stem from the fact that al-though there were many concrete dustbins in the CBD in the past, many of them are now broken.
Although the Herald took photographs of the problems on Monday, things looked even worse the next day after protesters overturned many dustbins around the municipal offices in the CBD.
The newspaper asked the municipality what they planned to do about the issues.
“The matter will be addressed as soon as possible,” was the reply of the municipal spokesperson on Wednesday.
