Just under three years after André de Ruyter assumed his position as Eskom CEO on December 25, 2019, he handed in his resignation.

News24 reports that De Ruyter handed in his resignation letter to Eskom earlier this week.

During his time in office, De Ruyter and his management have been repeatedly attacked, with Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe accusing Eskom of using load-shedding as a means to destabilise the government.

Mantashe has been extensively quoted in the media as saying ‘load-shedding is becoming worse than State capture’.

Business Tech reports that although Eskom did everything it could to avoid stage 7 load-shedding, even delaying taking Koeberg Unit 1 off the grid for repairs, economists say stage 7 technically took place last week when rolling blackouts were compounded by load curtailment.
