Police members’ helping hands bring hope

These children have to get up very early to get to school.

A group of concerned police members from Wedela helped to bring new hope for disadvantaged children at the onset of the colder weather.

The police in Wedela’s social crime officer, Sgt Zikhona Sifuba, and a group of concerned colleagues visited farms in the area on Saturday 13 April.

They went to the farms at about 10:00 to hand over some donated clothes.
“The aim of this campaign is to help those who are in need and to keep the little ones smiling. The target was the children who are schooling in our primary schools and who are traveling from far,” says Sifuba. She explains that most of these kids wake up at 04:00, some even as early as 03:30, to prepare themselves for school and go to the bus stops and wait for the buses.

As it is getting very cold in the mornings, some of the donated clothes can even be worn under their school unforms for extra warmth.

“The parents were very happy that the kids got clothes and I would like to thank everyone that has extended a hand and donated some clothes. I would also like to thank my team for giving up their family time and help me with the campaign,” says Sifuba.

She also thanked the police in Carletonville, who borrowed their colleagues their minibus for the action.

The team from Wedela reached nine families during the action.
