MDUDUZI NIEKER: “I get my groceries from different shops including Shoprite, Pick n Pay or some Pakistan shops which sell groceries. The cost of living is continuously going up and our savings are in trouble, therefore the need to always shop around for cheaper and more affordable goods.”
THE Chronicle recently took to the streets where we interviewed residents on the impact of food price increases and where they go for grocery shopping to get the best deals in the South.
BILLY MARAIS: “Prices are unnecessarily going up each day and one has to be careful when shopping. I always start at Pick n Pay, then proceed to Woolworths, then Spar, because all of them always have different specials, which is why it is important to shop around different places.”BONES MULLER: “The continuous increases in food prices are unacceptable and they need one to be very observant when shopping. This is the reason why most of the times we end up taking a full day just to shop because people are always looking for places with the best and cheapest deals in town.”IAN HORN: “Most things I buy from Westpack as it has quite affordable deals. Then, I get more groceries from Pick n Pay because of their smart shopper rewards, which go a long way in giving back to what I would have initially spent in their shops.”SIYABONGA DLAMINI: “I do not normally go for grocery shopping but whenever I do I make sure that I get the cheapest product possible. I do not have any specifics because prices are ever changing.”
