Another car skids out of control in Liefde en Vrede

It's only a matter of time before there's a fatal accident on Klipview Road, Liefde en Vrede.

ON Monday evening October 14 at about 19:40, a driver coming down Klipview Road towards the Lebanon Church, skidded out of control, hit the opposite pavement and spun his car around.

Ironically, once again there was a burst water pipe in Troupant Street, which had flooded the top part of Klipview Road.

“I went through the water on the road, touched my brakes and felt my car starting to slide,” said the driver. “I hit the opposite pavement and my car ended up in the middle of Klipview Road. I couldn’t move it as the front axle had broken,” he continued. The car was towed away a while later.

Residents of Catherine Dee townhouse complex, who live closest to Klipview Road, say they can’t take it anymore. “On Friday and Saturday evenings we sit in our homes, listening to cars speeding and waiting for the next crash. We don’t say that all drivers speed but lots of them do,” they said.

Ward 23 councillor, Paul Smit, reported the burst water pipe in Troupant Street late on Monday evening and a team of workers came out to fix it but on Tuesday morning at 04:30 the pipe had burst yet again.

“An emergency team will be going out to see the damage this morning and hopefully manage to repair the water pipe so it won’t burst again anytime in the near future. It’s suspected the connection could be faulty,” he said.
