Looking back over the year 2013
January came with its own ups and downs, here's a look back at everything that went down.
January
*Congratulations matric students. Gauteng received record matric results being the best since 1994 and Joburg South schools definitely played a part as many received distinctions and bachelor passes.
*More than just animal rescuers. Johannesburg and Krugersdorp SPCA’s were inundated with calls regarding the irresponsible use of fireworks and people going away and leaving their pets at home to fend for themselves.
*The great kick-off. “Unknown territory” this is how the President of Golden Lions Rugby Union, Kevin de Klerk described the union’s season which lies ahead of them.
*Farewell to Mark. Mark Liss, who passed away on January 10, was a well-loved teacher at Glenvista High School, but first and foremost a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
*Hop the bus. Tourists will now be able to jump on an iconic red open top bus and explore some of the most famous tourist locations in Johannesburg.
*Electricity pole sparks trouble. Last year December municipal workers dug a hole around a street lamp to fix the underground cabling and to supply a resident with electricity.
