Southern cricketer tours England
Keith Dudgeon (18) was selected to represent SA u19 Cricket on a tour to England for five weeks, and says it’s a real honour to be have been selected for such an exciting trip.
REGENTS PARK – Keith has been playing with a ball since he could first walk and at five years old joined the Glenvista Cricket Club.
He attended Glenanda Primary School and played cricket for the school, as well as for Joburg South u.10 to u.13 teams and then provincial cricket from u.15 to u.19. He also was selected for the South African U19 schools team and also for the u.17 South Africa team at Cubs Week, this last January . He was also selected to train with Gauteng Strikers High Performance Squad during the winter off season.
A student at University of Johannesburg, he plays for their Premier team and his love for the game is probably the thing which grounds him most. “I practice four hours a day, five days a week but for me it isn’t a hardship, I love it!” he said.
When he’s not on the cricket field you may well find him swimming a few lengths of the pool, playing golf, or playing cricket with his brother in the yard. An all-rounder, Keith enjoys all sports and narrowly missed out on joining the SA u.19 World Cup Squad.
His parents, Dennis and Kay as well as his older brother Allan (20), who incidentally also plays cricket, support him one hundred per cent in his cricketing. “From being a little boy we always knew he’d achieve in at least one ball sport. He was forever kicking or hitting a ball around our garden,” they laughed.
On his tour to England, Keith will get to play in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire in five one day internationals and two test matches. Two of the games will be televised on Supersport, one on August 15 and the other on August 22, so make sure you catch one or both the games. All games will be live streamed on Sky sport.
Sponsored by Gunn and Moore since 2009, he added it’s a privilege to play with their bats. “They cut quite a mean swing when I’m hitting the ball,” Keith said.
“I’d like to say special thanks to Juan Le Maitre and Wayne Vincent from The Cricket Company at Alberton Cricket Club, they played a huge part in getting me started off in my cricket career and have always been very supportive, and also to everyone who has supported me over the years” added Keith.
