New JMPD satellite station opened in Kenilworth
The new JMPD Statellite Station will be the home for the community of the South.
JOHANNESBURG Mayor Clr Herman Mashaba opened a new JMPD satellite station in Kenilworth on August 16, as part of creating safe, secure and viable communities for the people.
He was accompanied by MMC for Public Safety, Clr Michael Sun and MMC for Health and Social Development, Clr Mpho Phalatse.
Clr Mashaba said communities such as Kenilworth, Turffontein and Rosettenville are being directly impacted by the scourge of drugs, human trafficking, and other gang-related ills, which he will not tolerate.

“The property which houses this brand new satellite station has been generously donated by The Southern Business Community Forum and Mr Mario Stephanou, and is a great example of how government, the private-public sector and community can work together to improve the quality of security in communities. Private-public partnerships also allow government to maintain quality service delivery in spite of budget limitations, and most importantly, services are delivered to the communities that need them. The Southern Business Community Forum is therefore to be commended for their generous donation, and for their steadfast commitment to the communities in which they operate.

“This initiative further supports Rosettenville’s Reclaim-our-Community movement, which is tackling property hijacking and human trafficking that results in other criminal activities. In conjunction with the Department of Social Development, this satellite station will serve as a haven for victims of human trafficking to receive support and trauma counselling. It will further serve as an operational office for JMPD officers, and as an administrative point for residents to get their documents certified. It will also be home to the local policing forums from the surrounding areas,” Mashaba said.

Over the years, these areas and surrounding neighbourhoods have suffered severe deterioration, forcing many residents and businesses to leave the area. Hence the joint venture between business owners and government entities to tackle crime, by-law contraventions and upliftment of the area.

Benjamin Meyer spoke on behalf of the businesses in the area.
“No man is an island, we need to work as a team with our community. Thank you Mario and The Southern Business Community Forum for the inspiration. Let’s restore the South to the glory it deserves. We have a school nearby and we cannot allow those learners to pass these drug dens every day,” he said.

The satellite station will be open 24/7 with at least 28 officers and the community is encouraged to make use of it. Its hotline number is 011 728 9621/2/3.
