Steep entrance at SP Pavilion Shopping Centre a danger in rainy weather
"Motorists who use this road, especially where the entrance to the shopping centre is, must drive through loads of water."
I’VE noticed that, with all the rainy weather we’ve been having lately, the steep entrance from Amanda Street into SP Pavilion Shopping Centre can be really dangerous for motorists.
On rainy days, the water has nowhere to flow except onto Amanda Road. So, motorists who use this road, especially where the entrance to the shopping centre is, must drive through loads of water.
It’s very dangerous. The road is slippery, water splashes everywhere and motorists can’t see where they must drive. I’d bet the chances of getting into an accident here probably increases significantly on a wet day.
I hope all drivers are extra careful when using Amanda Street during rainy weather. Please drive slowly and make sure to turn your lights on as bright as possible.
Concerned motorist
Ward 56 councillor, Michael Crichton, commented on the matter:
“I have noted the resident’s concern about the water that builds up outside the SP Pavilion Shopping Centre when it rains and have reported it to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (reference number 304561). I have escalated it to the depot manager for the best way it can be dealt with.”
