Garden club learns about fertilisers and soil preparation
“If you want the plants in your garden to thrive, then give the soil in which they grow some attention."
An interesting meeting was held on January 28 for members of Johannesburg South Garden Club and its visitors.
Guest speaker Lauren Botha, from Atlantic Fertilisers, chatted about using fertilisers and preparing soil to get the best from plants and vegetables.
“Atlantic Fertilisers offer different fertilisers and soil conditioners, which are based on many years of research, field trials and work with commercial growers. You, as the home gardener, will benefit from using these,” said Lauren.
Lauren spoke about the different products and what they offer for the home garden.
“The Flower and Fruit fertiliser combines the best of both worlds with its organic base providing a full range of plant nutrients in a slow release form, while carefully selected water-soluble nutrients have been added to maximise the performance of each application.
“This fertiliser is ideal for all flowering and fruit bearing plants with the exception of indigenous plants and bare-rooted roses.”
She went on to add, “If you want the plants in your garden to thrive, then give the soil in which they grow some attention.
“A fertile and healthy soil is the basis for healthy plants. Plus, don’t forget to mulch. This helps to keep the soil cool during the hot summer months and protects the base of the plants and flowers.
“Another of our products, Bio Ocean fertiliser, is crammed with rich nutrients from the sea, with the key ingredient of this organic fertiliser being seaweed.
“Its slow release nutrients make it perfect for indoor plants and plants with rich jungle-like foliage.
“Choose the correct fertiliser for your gardens needs and follow the instructions on the bag and you won’t go wrong.”
