St Declan’s drive-through shave-a-thon a success

St Declan's celebrated the last day of the term with a shave-a-thon in support of Cansa.

St Declan’s School for Boys decided to celebrate their last day of the term in a different way.

To raise awareness of and funds for the fight against cancer, St Declan’s hosted a drive-through shave-a-thon on September 11.

Learners and parents drove through the parking lot of the school, stopping to quickly spray their hair and make donations.

According to Nicholas Nunes, deputy headmaster of the school, the shave-athon is both a great initiative and highly topical for the learners of St Declan’s.

“We had a learner with last year who fought through strongly,” said Nicholas. “We saw the struggle he and his family went through and we thought this was a good bit of awareness we could raise as a school.”

Sometimes it takes a team to make sure you have it all covered. A group of learners sprays Amam Engele’s hair.
Eli Pillay took things into his own hands, spraying his au pair Chelcie Pope’s hair.
Sam Oosthuizen giving Dennis Cooney a delightful shade of pink.
