Donation strengthens school project to feed children

Athletes participate in fund-raising run to aid school project.

Frances Vorwerg teacher and athlete Natasha Felix recently participated in a fund-raising event for a feeding scheme run by Frances Vorwerg School.

Athletes will give their everything during June to raise much-needed funds and create awareness about the school’s Feed a Child Drive.

Felix is happy with the support from various people who participated and donated to assist the school.

“I started running from Thaba Trails on June 13 and ran a 50km route with supporting partner Kgomotso Diphoko. We had a vehicle supporting us on the road,” she said.

She said she was later joined by a fellow learner, Justin Smith, a level four learner from the TOC phase.

“I advised him as a coach on how to prepare before the run. I am proud of his effort and he impressively completed his first-ever 6km. It was remarkable to see his commitment to support the project.”

Felix said the event was sponsored by 32GI with supplements for the athletes.

Vegetables donated from Umhlaba Farm

The school is also happy that they have been receiving vegetable donations from Umhlaba Farm.

“We received vegetables in the first week after the first article from the CHRONICLE broke regarding the project. Ever since the farm has been regularly donating. We have been getting seeds as well to proceed with our gardens.

“Learners have been involved with the garden project as well. We received composed soil from Umhlaba Farm and every second day we rotate the watering of the vegetable garden. Learners are working together with the teachers to learn about taking care of the garden,” she said.

Felix said they have been receiving financial contributions from various runners from the south in support of the schools’ fundraising.

“A lot of individuals have donated to the school towards the feeding scheme and some of them donated processed food,” she said.
