Local franchise raises funds for little Blake

The community is invited to support little Blake Froneman’s fundraiser event which will be hosted by Alberton Crossing McDonald’s on November 28.

Just weeks after publishing Blake Froneman’s story, Alberton Crossing McDonald’s marketing manager Thabile Dube has decided to raise funds for the 10-year-old youngster.

After helping many other locals in the community, the local franchise will raise funds for Blake to help cover his medical expenses that range from R2 000 to R4 000 monthly.

The Brackenhurst youngster is blind and autistic. His medical expenses are all necessary to help him with his daily life and to also get him a guide dog. He needs to see an ophthalmologist annually to have his eyes checked and also needs to see an orthotist for prosthetic supports for his feet and ankles.

Blake’s mother, Rose-Lee Watson, thanked McDonald’s for raising funds for her son, she said she was excited for the fund-raiser.

“Not only will this help bring us closer to our goal towards the guide dog for Blake, but it will help us get some aids he can use in the meantime and to bring awareness to the community.

“Children with visual disability or those that are blind have very little resources in South Africa,” she said.

She told the RECORD they were expecting a positive turnout on the day.

Thabile said: “As a parent, I was deeply touched as I went through the story. This was our way of showing humanity and extending a helping hand because I realised she needs help. So let’s join hands and help Blake.”

McDonald’s will be hosting a fund-raiser for Blake on November 28 from 12:00 to 16:00, where 10% of sales on Blake’s till will go to him. There will also be a box for cash donations at McDonald’s on the day.
