Little ones recycle with a purpose

Noddy Nursery School received a special visit from Ronnie Recycler, the Mpact Recycling mascot, and Yasmeen Adam, procurement representative from Mpact Recycling, on November 18.

The nursery school placed first in the Mpact Recycling Schools Competition in 2020. However, due to the Covid restrictions, the official prize handover at the school had to be postponed to this year.

Noddy Nursery School collected 7.366 tonnes of recyclable paper, newspapers and magazines for the competition, which saw them winning R7 000 cash from Mpact Recycling and stationery to the value of R7 000 from Butterfly.

In addition to that, R1 000 was awarded to the Green Ambassador, the teacher or parent at the school driving the recycling, and R1 000 was awarded to the Green Learner, the learner who contributed the most recycling at the school.

Noddy Nursery School donated the R7 000 they won to Alberton Lions, who will use the funds towards their stationery projects to help children start their schooling year with a stationery pack.

Ink Pot, a stationery company situated in Verwoerdpark, will be assembling all the stationery packs. Ink Pot has been assisting the Alberton Lions with these packs for the past four years.

“It is a privilege and an honour to have a partnership with the Alberton Lions,” said Amanda Berg, owner of Ink Pot.

The Mpact Recycling Schools Competition is run annually to encourage recycling awareness among schools. The competition will see schools winning prizes nationwide to the value of R110 000, with terms and conditions in place.

Noddy Nursery School is ranked in the top 10 for the school’s competition this year. The nursery is appealing to the surrounding community members, offices and businesses to donate their paper, newspapers and magazines to the school for recycling.

The recycling can be dropped off at any of their three collection sites – Noddy Nursery School in Albermarle, Abacus Kids Academy in Verwoerdpark and Abacus Kids Academy in Florentia.

The list of recyclables includes paper (white and colour), newspapers, magazines and old books.

Not only will you be doing your bit to help the environment by ensuring recyclables don’t go to the landfill, but Noddy Nursery School can also raise funds from recycling.
