Local business coach jumps to inspire

What do you do when you suffer from a fear of heights?

The answer is simple. You book your first tandem skydiving jump even when everyone around you thinks you are stark raving mad.

This is what local business coach and marketing consultant Christél Rosslee-Venter did.

“There was a bit more method in this madness,” Christél explained.

“I work with entrepreneurs who are often paralysed by their fears. Fear of failure, fear of ridicule, fear of losing their social life and even fear of success.

“We all have fears at some point in time. Successful people often refer to it as stress, but it is still a fear to overcome.”

The nerve-racking jump happened on November 20 at Skydive Parys, located at the Parys Airfield.

“The crew was absolutely phenomenal. The step-by-step briefing was not too complicated and the flight to 10 000ft (3 048m) went by uneventful, although I did use every mindfulness exercise in the book to stay calm and in good spirits.”

Actor Will Smith said: “God placed the best things in life on the other side of fear” after his first skydiving adventure, and this seems to have held true at Skydive Parys.

“I was scared beyond belief but am incredibly happy I did not give in to my fears. The jump was amazing, but the feeling of knowing I did it is beyond comparison.

“I would, however, be over the moon if I can be an inspiration to an enthusiastic entrepreneur to take that leap of faith. Starting a new business or risking your reputation on a new project is just as nerve-racking as jumping out of a plain,” Christél concluded.
