Watch out for scams warns Moffat View SAPS
There are several cases of fraud being reported and investigated at the police station.
Moffat View SAPS warns community members not to become victims of fraud.
Station’s communication officer Sgt Solly Matjila said the community should always be alert of people who are giving out free sim cards of different service providers saying that they come with lots of airtime and data.
“People should also be alert when someone calls and pretends to be from a well-known bank, requesting their details. They would often claim that they need to update their details on the bank database. Once they get hold of such details they use them for fraudulent activities.
“We plead with the community not to give out their personal information to anyone over the phone irrespective of what the person is saying or promising. Rather buy your sim card at a recognised shop.
“The community is advised to go to their service providers or their nearest banks and enquire about the information that they received from the caller. There are several cases of fraud being reported and investigated at Moffat View SAPS,” he said.
