Mothwa Haven, an old age home that is part of the Memorial Order of Tin Hats Women’s Auxiliary in Rewlatch, will embark on a fund-raiser, Fun Bowls Day, at Herbert Park Bowling Club on May 29 in aid of the home.
Mothwa Haven has underground leaking water pipes requiring replacement after 50 years, at a cost of several hundred thousand rands.
The Fun Bowls Day is open to old and new bowlers, teams of four, full women’s teams, full men’s teams or mixed.
Bowls will be provided to those who do not have, from 09:00 to 09:30. Skips are requested to be present at 08:30 to witness the draw at a cost of R600. Cost per team is R150 per player, which is inclusive of green fees, teas and sandwiches and a light lunch. The format will be two games of 10 ends.
Organisers hope to attract two full greens, which is 24 teams, or 96 players, to make it competitive, social and an interesting day of fun. Come in flat-soled shoes or barefoot. Corner to corner will be played after lunch and there will be raffles and maybe a small jumble sale in aid of Mothwa funds.
Spectators are welcome; there will be a cash bar.
