The 29-year-old fighter competed in Pretoria at Versus Promotions Fight Night.
Both fighters went head-to-head in a three-round entertaining fight. The skilful Matukane came out victorious on a unanimous decision.
Matukane is a member of Apex South, a Brackenhurst gym that offers boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, owned by Tiny and Kelly Strauss.
“I love this sport because it is physically challenging and it requires a lot of discipline, which is acquired through lots of training, hard work, dedication and perseverance. And those are all the qualities I possess. I feel very excited, especially after the long hours of training,” he said.
He told the Alberton RECORD he started competing in 2018 and has never looked back ever since.

“Just like every young person I have big dreams for myself. My dream is to be the best MMA fighter there is. What sets me apart is that I work very hard to ensure that my dream becomes a reality. I fell in love with the sport in the year 2010,” said Matukane.
Matukane said he valued the sport because it was different from the relevantly known sports played in townships such as soccer, netball and basketball.
His coach and manager Tiny Strauss said he was proud of Matukane’s victory and that he is one of their toughest fighters.
“My wife and I opened the gym about three years ago and Chris joined us about a year or so ago, we are very excited for him. He has got a bright future and to possibly box professionally. His opponent really brought to him, but he showed heart,” he said.
